Omega Optical Expands Mirror Stripping & Recoating Services
Brattleboro, Vermont – July 23, 2026
Omega Optical today announced the expansion of its Strip & Recoat service, created to provide customers with easy access to information about reconditioning their mirrored optics and to support the company’s commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience.
Omega offers recoating of reflectors ranging from 10 mm through meter-class optics and includes controlled handling, coating removal, substrate preparation, precision recoating, inspection, and return shipment. Typical turnaround is one to two weeks, with customers receiving updates throughout the process. Even a high-quality mirror coating degrades over time, reducing the signal-to-noise ratio, lowering contrast, introducing unwanted scatter, and diminishing overall optical performance.
Ithaca Site Director Don Anderson states, “Precision optical components represent a significant investment. Our Strip & Recoat service provides customers with a cost-effective way to restore optical performance, extend component life, and maximize the value of existing assets while maintaining the quality standards they expect from Omega Optical.”
Our team has extensive experience handling sensitive optical components and thin-film systems. We understand the balance between coating removal effectiveness and substrate preservation. Every project is approached with technical rigor and process control. We work with university astronomy, research observatories, advanced hobbyists, and the broader telescope maker community to provide a cost-effective recovery method for valuable reflective optics.
